Jot

Jot is an awesome little extension for Chrome.  It is simple and might not be entirely necessary, but I've found it to be quite useful at the very least.  When you click for a new tab in Chrome, Jot will fill it with a random beautiful background image and spot to, well, jot something down.  I paste copied links from sites I want to visit later and write myself reminders.

It's as simple as anything comes.  Write what you want, backspace to delete, highlight and delete, or there's a little clear button to wipe the slate clean, so to speak.  When highlighted, the clear button has a few reactionary statements it will go to.  I hope they add more as what's there now is quite amusing.

A new line with a fresh carrot will appear each time you hit enter and word wrap
is featured so you can enter multiple lines of text.
There are other new tab apps and extensions out there, but I find this one to be my favorite so far.  I like simple things.  I have my phone for my weather report and news headlines so don't need any of that here.
Below you will find a couple of the random responses to your attempts to clear Jot.

So give it a try and let me know your thoughts on Jot.  If you've found another alternative to that plain and simple new tab in Chrome, let me know so I can get it featured here.
